Song Inspired by Stillingfleet Lodge Garden – Paula Ryan

It’s not every day that someone writes a song about your garden! But to our delight we received this lovely song and accompanying video from singer/songwriter Paula Ryan who was inspired by our flowers and trees.

I think the lines:

“Summer still leads to autumn,  Dark winter still leads to spring”

are particularly appropriate given that we have now closed for the winter, but are already preparing for spring.

Paula Ryan

Although she lives in York, Paula was born and bred in Tipperary Ireland and her songs are inspired by the lyricism and passion of her Irish routes. She describes herself as a Gaelic “Funkstress” using rhythmic influences and instruments from other cultures. Hear more of her music and find out where you can see her live over on her website here.

Behind the Scenes in the Garden

We never really get a breather here as our closed season means preparing the plants and garden for the next year as well as planning new events for 2024. If you would like to have a look Behind the Scenes in the Garden, join us for two extra open days at the end of October.

Autumn is the perfect time to plant new perennial plants as the ground is warm and moist. These two open days are a perfect opportunity to collect your plants from the nursery. You will need to order them in advance, so have a browse through our catalogue here and send me your order so that you can collect your plants on one of these dates

On 25th October the garden and tea room will be open and Vanessa will be doing a guided walk at 2:00pm taking you “behind the scenes” where you will be able to visit the polytunnel to see how we prepare plants to sell in the nursery next year.

On 28th October both the garden and tea room will be open and you will be able to enjoy the autumn colours of the garden. Vanessa will be available to answer any questions you may have about caring for the garden in winter.

Both days are by pre-booking only. Season Ticket holders are free and regular admission applies to non-season ticket holders.
