Wire Sculptures in the Garden

Richard Gibson of Wold Wire Sculptures, who is our wire workshop leader for 2026, will be exhibiting his life size animal wire sculptures in the garden this August. We are delighted to welcome him here and are sure you will love to see his work in the natural setting of our garden.

Richard told us:

“I have always had lifelong a passion for nature with particular interest in animals and their anatomical integrity. I began his sculptural journey from a young age sampled many different mediums. In recent years I discovered wire sculpture which I feel really compliments my style. The open wire design helps capture the light and energy within the piece and also affords the sculptures unique visual variations dependant on the light conditions in which they are situated.

I have never had any formal art training. For me art has always been a self-exploratory journey. My first efforts in sculpture were at 6 years old with tinfoil from chocolate wrappers. Ironically the manipulation of aluminium foil shares many parallels with what I do today. I have been lucky enough to try many different materials but it is ultimately wire that fascinates me. I get great pleasure and passion breathing life into, what is essentially, garden netting and have worked full time as a wire sculptor for the last ten years.”
