SEPTEMBER: Botanical Prints by Moira Craig

We look forward to welcoming Moira Craig to the exhibition space in the tea room for the first time. She will be exhibiting her beautiful botanical prints, which showcase the natural dyes within plants. She uses flowers and leaves from both her own and other local gardens to create memories of summer printed onto watercolour paper. They are contemporary pieces that blend traditional flowers into impressionistic compositions.

Moira tells us, “I have tried botanical dyeing on fabric in the past and recently enjoyed experimenting with the medium of paper. The process is very similar. It was during the later lockdowns that I became completely fascinated with the results, as at times the results could be quite unexpected. The results have been exciting, especially as it is almost impossible to get the same print twice, so totally unique.

In brief, the process involves the use of flowers and leaves which are rich in tannins. They are soaked in Alum, arranged on watercolour paper and packaged tightly before being steamed! The next step feels a little like opening a special gift, as its quite a surprise what result you get.”

We are sure you will love the results
