AUGUST: Joanna Lisowiec – Printmaker

We are delighted to welcome Joanna Lisowiec back to our Art in the Tea Room exhibition for 2024. Joanna is a Polish born illustrator and printmaker living in Yorkshire. As an illustrator and printmaker she is known for a bold style of illustration with lots of texture, usually focused on the beauty of nature and narratives inspired by folklore. Expect detailed, textured and vibrant work in the medium of linocuts, drawings and paintings.

Her primary medium is relief print where the negative of an image is carved out of a block of wood or linoleum. This carving is then inked up and paper is applied to make an impression and multiple blocks or layers are often used to build up colours and textures. The effect is an original artwork with a slightly unpredictable nature, making each print one of a kind.

Joanna has also illustrated several books such as ‘The Stubborn Light of Things’ by Melissa Harrison, and ‘The Wolf Hall Companion’. In addition to this she works with startups and local businesses to design bespoke, illustrative packaging and branding for their products. To see more of her work, please visit https://www.joanna-draws.com/ and follow her on social media at @joannalisowiec.
