JULY – In the Summertime by Fiona Calder
July brings us an exhibition featuring colourful, floral scenes by Fiona Calder, perfect for summertime.
Fiona’s life long love of flowers grew from spending childhood summers in the colourful garden at her green-fingered grandparents’ home. Since then she has taken great pleasure in photographing and drawing flowers both in Britain and on her travels around the world. This inspired her to create a range of floral prints and cards.
Fiona always begins her creations with hand drawn elements, bringing each flower to life with fine liner illustrations, paints or pastels. Her talent for graphic design then allows her a freedom to experiment with composition by building a digital collage from the different flowers and foliage she has drawn.
She feels that the use of these contrasting techniques brings a unique and interesting dimension to her art, giving it a crisp, yet painterly look, and along with a use of beautiful, vivid colours it really makes her designs sing.
