Sunday 30th June 2024. Open 11:00 to 16:00

We have already started planning the Wildlife Day for 2024 and have set the date for 30th June so that we can be part of National Insect Week again.  Watch this space for details

Wildlife Day 2023

The sun shone and we were greeted by a sea of smiling faces as the families came into the garden full of anticipation for our tenth annual Family Wildlife Day on 25th June.

The first area to visit was the bird-ringing demonstration with Mark Lucas.  The demonstration went on throughout the day and the highlight was a spotted flycatcher, such an unusual bird that Mark has to check his notes to see which size ring to put on the bird.

In the meantime, here's what one visitor said:

thank you for an informative and fun day today. My grandsons loved it and we adults learned plenty too! Everything had just the right pitch for the young ones. They’ve held snakes, stroked a slow-worm, looked at pond life, made and coloured a dragonfly, dissected an owl pellet, looked at unusual moths … all for £5 each !  And, of course picked up some important environmental information too.

As ever we wish to extend a massive thank you to all the experts and volunteers who joined us on the day to share their knowledge and expertise - you can read about them all below.

Please follow our Wildlife Day Facebook page for all things wildlife: announcements of attendees, details of activities and general news about and photographs of British wildlife. Sign up to our newsletter here for news about the garden throughout the year.
